The guidance families wish they had sooner
I’m Kaitlin, an occupational therapist with 13 years of experience in inpatient adult and geriatric rehabilitation. I’ve helped families navigate falls, surgeries, strokes, home safety, equipment decisions, and the transition from hospital to rehab to home.
I created Independence, Simplified because families deserve clear, practical guidance before they’re overwhelmed by a crisis. These guides bring the thinking behind an OT home visit to the page—what to notice, what to ask and which changes may make everyday life safer and more manageable.
Why I created Independence, Simplified
Again and again, I met families who wanted to help but didn’t know where to begin. They weren’t sure what counted as a true safety risk, which changes mattered most, what questions to ask, or when a concern warranted professional help.
Often, I could see the relief after talking everything through—not because the information was complicated, but because someone had finally translated clinical knowledge into clear, practical next steps.
That’s why I created Independence, Simplified: to bring the guidance I once shared with one family at a time to anyone trying to support an aging loved one.
